28-YEAR-OLD UMAHI’S SON WINS COUNCIL CHAIRMANSHIP, VOWS TO FORGO SALARY

Osborn Nweze Umahi, the 28-year-old son of Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has emerged Chairman-elect of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Osborn won the chairmanship election held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shortly after his victory, the young politician made headlines with a pledge to reject his official salary and allowances throughout his tenure, saying the money should instead be directed towards the development of the people of Ohaozara.

«“I am coming to serve and not to enrich myself,” Umahi said, according to reports.»

He said his administration would focus on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, economic opportunities, support for businesses and improved services across the local government.

The development has sparked reactions, with many Nigerians watching to see whether the 28-year-old chairman-elect will translate his promises into tangible improvements for residents of Ohaozara.

What do you think about a politician voluntarily giving up his salary and allowances for public service?
