“Arrest Babangida Now!” — Sowore Renews Call for IBB’s Prosecution
“IBB’S AGE SHOULD NOT SHIELD HIM FROM JUSTICE”
Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has called for the investigation and possible prosecution of former military ruler Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, arguing that his age should not prevent accountability for alleged crimes committed during his military rule.
Sowore said it is “not too late” to arrest and prosecute Babangida over unresolved allegations of killings, human rights abuses, corruption and other serious violations associated with his regime.
Drawing a comparison with former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, who faced legal proceedings in his later years, Sowore argued that advanced age should not automatically place former leaders beyond the reach of justice.
According to Sowore, allegations against Babangida should be properly investigated and, where sufficient evidence exists, those responsible should face prosecution.
He stressed that age should not confer immunity from accountability.
Sowore ended his statement with a call for action:
“Arrest Babangida Now "
