UGHELLI RESIDENTS CRY OUT OVER PREPAID METER CHARGES, DEMAND URGENT ACTION
Residents of the Ighwre-Ovie axis of Ughelli, Delta State, have raised serious concerns over what they describe as excessive and unexplained deductions from their prepaid electricity meters.
The residents reportedly expressed their frustration over the situation, with some alleging that electricity units purchased on their prepaid meters are being exhausted unusually fast.
According to one of the complaints, residents could subscribe ₦20,000 worth of electricity credit, only for the units to reportedly finish within two days, even when electricity usage is said to be minimal.
The development has sparked concerns among residents, who are demanding transparency and an explanation from the authorities responsible for electricity distribution in the area.
Residents are calling on Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) and other relevant authorities to urgently investigate the complaints, verify the metering system and explain how electricity consumption is being calculated.
They are also appealing to the Delta State Government to intervene and ensure that electricity consumers in Ughelli are not subjected to unfair or unexplained charges.
The residents insist that they are not against paying for electricity but want fair billing, accurate metering, transparency and reliable service.
Authorities are urged to respond promptly to the complaints and address the concerns before the situation escalates further.
Ughelli residents deserve answers.
