AAC Governorship Candidate Doris Ogala Rejects ₦150 Million Campaign Billboard Fee in Abia

The African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for Abia State, Doris Ogala U, has condemned the ₦150 million campaign billboard permit fee reportedly introduced for political parties ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Dr. Ogala made her position known during a visit to the Abia State Signage and Advertising Agency (ABSAA), where she sought clarification on the new campaign advertising charges.

Describing the fee as excessive and undemocratic, she argued that such a policy could discourage political participation by creating unnecessary financial barriers for opposition parties and candidates.

She also criticized the administration of Alex Otti, saying it is difficult to justify imposing such a high campaign billboard fee at a time when many pensioners and civil servants are still facing welfare and salary-related concerns.

According to Dr. Ogala, democracy thrives on equal opportunity, and no political party should be priced out of the electoral process through what she described as exorbitant campaign permit charges.

She called on the Abia State Government to urgently review the policy, insisting that the 2027 elections should be conducted on a level playing field that promotes fairness, transparency, and inclusive democratic participation.

What are your thoughts? Should campaign billboard fees be regulated to ensure all political parties can compete fairly?
